Attorney at Law/Medical Doctor
Barbara Demby Abrams received her law degree (J.D.) from the Florida State University of College of Law. She is a member of the Florida bar and is licensed to practice in all Florida State Courts. Prior to becoming an attorney, she received her medical degree (M.D.) from Boston University in 1986, completed a residency in Pediatrics, and practiced primary care clinical pediatrics for over 20 years. Following her graduation from FSU Law School in 2005, she worked as a medical consultant for the Division of Disability Determinations for the Florida Department of Health where her primary duty involved the review of medical data submitted by claimants seeking social security disability benefits.
Additionally, she has served as the physician on more than 400 guardianship incapacity examining committees. She has recently returned to the Tallahassee area after two years working in Washington, D.C. as a Commissioner’s Fellow for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) where she worked in the Offices of Personalized Medicine, Pediatric Therapeutics, and Legislation. Barbara works in a variety of fields where law and medicine intersect, predominantly in the areas of Social Security Disability and Guardianship.
